With a love of art and his talent for painting, Chris has always had a paint brush in his hand. Chris is an accomplished portrait and landscape artist, drawing on inspiration from his surroundings including growing up in country Victoria and travels in Australia and overseas. It is apparent from his portrait and landscape work that Chris has a unique ability to capture the "essence" of his subject.
Although primarily self taught, Chris has completed a number of courses, including attending still life and portraiture at the Victoria Arts Society and studying technical and life drawing at Prague College. Chris is also an award winning traditional Signwriter, establishing his own business, Professional Signs, which has been operating successfully for over 35 years. Use of colour and light is very evident in Chris’work. While living in Europe Chris was able to visit galleries studying different techniques of some of the finest artists in the world.
Chris has held a number of solo exhibitions, most recently in February 2025 exhibiting his very successful exhibition “7 X 5” at the 45 Downstairs Gallery. The exhibition focused on Melbourne and Victoria scenes capturing the uniqueness and vibrancy of the city and countryside. Chris has also completed several commissioned portraits for various clients.
Artists such as Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts , Brett Whiteley and John Brack have had an influence on Chris' work. This influence, together with the experience Chris has gained in the signage industry over the years, has led Chris to experiment with different colours, materials, mediums and textures. Most recently Chris has concentrated on oil with a distinctive impressionist style.
